Let Go

As children bring their broken toys with tears for us to mend, I brought my broken dreams to God because He was my friend. But then instead of leaving them with Him in peace to work alone, I hung around and tried to help with ways that were my own. At last I snatched them back and cried, "How can you be so slow?" "My child", He said, " what could I do? You never did let go." - Lauretta P Burns
Indeed it is very difficult to let go things or people in our lives. Revisiting old memories is always painful, but there is a time when closets must be cleaned out, pictures put away, and a new door to be opened. Letting go does not always mean letting them leave you. Letting go can also mean being with them, caring for them, but not allowing them to drain you, hurt you or not give you the ability to live your own life. Don't make someone a priority who only makes you an option. I know of people who find it very diffcult to let go... they have their reasons not to let go... the memories, I must say are very powerful weapons. Life can bring about many unpleasant and unbearable experiences, leaving in their wake unforgiving and sometimes intrusive memories. Before getting rid of those haunting memories, we must come to terms with the origin of those memories. Is it fair that our present should be haunted by our memories? How difficult is it to let go these memories? With the memories we keep the people alive as well. Like it or not...
Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that is not you; all of the expectations, all of the beleifs, and becoming who you are. - Rachel Naomi
